Can I replace APC batteries with third-party batteries?
|
|
Technically yes — APC UPS use standard VRLA batteries (12 V, 7 Ah or
12 Ah depending on model). Compatible batteries from other manufacturers are cheaper.
Important: identical voltage and capacity (Ah).
Replacement batteries in the shop.

APC Smart-UPS or Eaton 5PX — which for the server room?
|
|
Both are high-quality Line-Interactive UPS (VI) with hot-swap battery and NMC option.
APC Smart-UPS: better monitoring integration (PowerChute), larger accessory ecosystem.
Eaton 5PX: slightly higher efficiency, more modern software (IPM), more compact design.
For VMware/Proxmox: Eaton 5PX/9PX has advantages through better hypervisor integration.
