Leuchtmittel – Halogen Lamps
Halogen lamps offer higher efficiency and longer lifespan (2,000–5,000 h) than classical incandescent lamps, with brilliant warm white light (2,900–3,200 K) and outstanding colour rendering (CRI 100). The range covers mains halogen lamps (230 V, direct mains connection) and low-voltage halogen lamps (12 V, require transformer or electronic driver). Mains halogen lamps (230 V): No additional operating component needed – direct 230 V operation. Designs: linear lamps (R7s, 78 and 118 mm) for floodlights and work lights, reflector lamps (PAR16, PAR20, PAR30, PAR38) for directed light, pin-base lamps (G9, G4) for designer luminaires, bulb-shape (E27, E14) as standard lamp replacement. Power range: 18–500 W. Low-voltage halogen lamps (12 V): MR16 (GX5.3/GU5.3, 35–50 W) for recessed spotlights, MR11 (GU4, 10–20 W) for small recessed fittings, G4 capsules (5–20 W) for decorative and orientation lights. Applications: retail and display lighting (brilliant light, CRI 100), work and construction floodlights (mains linear R7s lamps), hotel and hospitality (warm atmosphere, dimmable), studio and photography (colour-stable light). Efficiency note: since 2018 many halogen lamp types are no longer marketable in the EU. For new installations we recommend LED alternatives with comparable light quality. For replacement in existing installations halogen lamps remain available. Expert advice: +49 (0)7666 / 88499-0 | sales@industry-electronics.com | Top manufacturers

Halogen Lamps – FAQ
What is the difference between mains and low-voltage halogen lamps?
Mains (230 V): direct mains connection – no transformer needed, simpler installation. G9, R7s, PAR reflectors, E27/E14 shapes. Low-voltage (12 V): requires transformer or electronic driver – MR16, MR11, G4. Advantage: lower injury risk at touchable parts.
Can I replace halogen lamps with LEDs?
Usually yes – for most bases LED retrofit versions exist: G9-LED for G9 halogen capsules, GU10-LED for GU10 halogen, MR16-LED for MR16 halogen (check 12 V driver is LED-compatible). Check the LED retrofit's light quality and dimmability.
Can I touch halogen lamps with bare hands?
No – halogen lamps (especially low-voltage types) are sensitive to skin oils. Fingerprints can cause uneven heating and premature failure. Always install with gloves or a cloth.
