▶ What is the difference between TAE and UAE connection boxes? TAE boxes are designed for analogue telephone connections (6-pin, one service per box). UAE boxes are 8-pin and can carry both analogue and ISDN services – they were introduced as a more universal successor. Today, new installations mostly use RJ45 outlets, which can also connect TAE devices via appropriate adapters. |
▶ Up to which category are RJ45 connection boxes available? RJ45 connection boxes are available up to Cat.8.1 (to ISO/IEC 11801-1 and ANSI/TIA-568-C.2-1). For typical office networks (10GBase-T), Cat.6A boxes are standard; Cat.7 boxes with GG45 or TERA connectors are mainly used in data centres. The category of the box must be at least equal to the category of the installed cable. |
▶ Surface or flush mounting – which is preferable? Surface-mount boxes are fixed directly to the wall and are suitable for retrofits and industrial environments where no conduits are installed in the wall. Flush-mount boxes require an installation box in the wall (switch box to DIN 49073) but offer a cleaner appearance. New office builds today often plan broad-band flush cabling to DIN 18015. |
