Controller AccessoriesController accessories include upgrades and spare parts for RAID controllers, HBAs and other interface cards: battery backup units (BBU), cache modules, breakout cables and SAS expanders. BBU (Battery Backup Unit): securing the RAID cache during power failure – prevents data loss with pending writes. Flash cache modules as an alternative to BBU without battery maintenance. SAS breakout cables (SFF-8087/8088 to SATA/SAS) for connecting controllers to drives. SAS expanders for expanding the port count. Compatibility between controller and accessories is crucial – please specify controller model and manufacturer when enquiring. Advice or quote? 07666 / 88499-0 or sales@industry-electronics.com |

FAQ
Why does a RAID controller need a BBU?
A RAID controller with write-back cache initially writes data to the cache (fast), then to the hard drive. In the event of power failure, cache data is lost – the BBU supplies the cache for sufficient time to secure data.
How long does a BBU last?
Typically 2–3 years service life. Afterwards, the controller falls into write-through mode (slower but safe). Test BBUs regularly and replace when necessary.
