PA Systems – Tour-Guide-Systeme
Tour guide systems (also called personal guide systems, whisper systems or simultaneous interpretation systems) transmit the voice of a guide or interpreter wirelessly to a group of listeners — discreetly, without interfering noise and without cables. Typical applications: museum tours for deaf or hard-of-hearing visitors, factory and production site tours in noisy environments, city tours and educational trips, conferences and AGMs with simultaneous interpretation, training in industrial facilities with mandatory hearing protection. System structure and components: The transmitter is worn by the guide — with a lavalier mic clipped to the lapel or a headset for hands-free operation. Each participant receives a receiver with earphone (in-ear or over-ear). One channel can be received by unlimited participants simultaneously — typical systems support 1–32 channels in parallel (simultaneous interpretation into multiple languages). Transmission technologies: UHF radio (470–694 MHz): range 50–100 m, no line-of-sight required — the most widespread technology. 2.4 GHz DECT: digital transmission, lower interference susceptibility, range approx. 30–50 m. Infrared (IR): absolutely tap-proof (no signal outside the room), requires line-of-sight to IR emitter — ideal for conferences and confidential simultaneous interpretation. Buying vs. renting — what to consider: For permanent use (museum, factory, training centre) purchase is worthwhile. Systems are modularly expandable — additional receivers can be added at any time. Charging cases charge all receivers simultaneously and serve as transport containers. Batteries: Li-Ion, runtime 8–20 h depending on model. Monacor with the TourGuide family and RCS Audio-Systems with Microflex Wireless offer professional solutions with excellent speech intelligibility, robust plastic housing and easy operation even for non-technicians. Frequently Asked Questions
▶ How many participants can one channel serve simultaneously? Theoretically unlimited — one transmitter broadcasts on one channel, any number of receivers can tune in simultaneously. In practice, the number of receivers in the set limits the group size. Sets are typically available for 10, 20 or 30 receivers; additional receivers can be purchased separately. |
▶ What is the difference between radio and infrared systems? Radio systems (UHF/2.4 GHz): No line-of-sight required, longer range, signal passes through walls — ideal for outdoor tours and building tours across multiple rooms. Infrared systems: Signal stays within the room (no reception outside), tap-proof — ideal for conference rooms, courtrooms and confidential simultaneous interpretation. Drawback: receiver must have line-of-sight to IR emitter. |
▶ Are the systems compatible with mandatory hearing protection zones? Yes — receivers with in-ear earphones can be worn under hearing protection capsules, allowing visitors to follow the tour even in loud production areas (≥ 85 dB). Alternative: bone conduction headphones as special accessory with some systems. |
