Direct Attached Storage in Storage
Direct Attached Storage
A mass storage that is connected directly to a server (without a storage area network) is called Direct Attached Storage (DAS). It can consist of single internal or external hard disk drives or can be an external Disk Array made up of several hard disks. Common DAS protocols are eSATA and SAS. Because DAS has been the only way to access mass storage for decades, the term exists only since after SAN and NAS memory have been developed, in order to distinguish DAS from these new technologies.
