Axis 02172-002 30W Midspam 240V AC content_copy

The AXIS 30 W Midspan (manufacturer number 02172-002, type ACCS) is a single-port midspan adapter for powering network devices via Ethernet cables. It is specifically designed for outdoor use and enables the supply of PoE-capable devices with up to 30 W of power. Compatibility with the IEEE 802.3af (PoE, up to 15 W) and IEEE 802.3at (PoE+, up to 30 W) standards ensures use with a wide range of network products, particularly with Axis devices that feature integrated PoE support. Power over Ethernet (PoE) simplifies installation by transmitting power and data over a single Ethernet cable, allowing existing network infrastructures to be used without replacing switches or cables.

Applications

The midspan is designed for outdoor use, making it particularly suitable for surveillance systems in industrial, logistics, or public facilities. Power supply is via alternating current in the range of 100 V to 240 V, enabling flexible adaptation to various power grids. The maximum power of 30 W is sufficient to supply PoE+-capable cameras or other network devices with higher energy requirements.

Features and Equipment in Detail

The AXIS 30 W Midspan offers a data transfer rate of 10/100/1000 MBit/s, enabling use in modern networks with high bandwidth requirements. As a single-port adapter, it is designed to supply a single device. Plug-and-play functionality means no complex configuration is required — the device can be connected and operated directly. Support for IEEE 802.3at (PoE+) enables the supply of devices requiring more than 15 W, which is relevant for many network cameras.

Technology Explained Simply

Power over Ethernet (PoE) transmits power and data over the same Ethernet cable. A midspan adapter like the AXIS 30 W is integrated into the existing network infrastructure to supply devices without their own power source with power via the network cable. This reduces the need for additional power lines and simplifies installation. The 30 W power output corresponds to the PoE+ specification (IEEE 802.3at), developed for devices with higher energy demands. Power supply is via alternating current from 100 V to 240 V, enabling adaptation to various regional power grids.

Compatibility and Accessories

The midspan is compatible with IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at, enabling use with a broad range of PoE-capable devices, especially Axis network products. As accessories, various components are available to support installation and operation: PoE extenders such as the T8129 or T8129-E (for outdoor use), power cables (e.g. TU6011, 5 m), surge protector modules (e.g. TU8001, T8061), and mounting accessories such as DIN rail clips (T91A03). These components can be added according to installation requirements to increase system reliability and safety.

Mounting and Installation

Installation is performed by directly connecting the network switch and the device to be powered via the Ethernet cable. The midspan is integrated into the cable connection and supplies the device with power and data. Due to plug-and-play functionality, no special configuration is required. Mounting can be done according to the environment using suitable brackets or DIN rail clips, with the use of protective devices such as surge protectors recommended, especially for outdoor installations.

Operational Advantages

Using existing network infrastructures enables quick and flexible expansion of surveillance or network systems. The high power output of 30 W supports even energy-intensive devices, and compatibility with PoE and PoE+ standards ensures broad applicability. Plug-and-play functionality and support for 10/100/1000 MBit/s ensure a reliable and high-performance network connection.
