Product information for Axis 5801-641:
The AXIS T8061 Ethernet Surge Protector is a surge protection device for Ethernet networks, designed to protect IP cameras, switches, midspans, and other network devices from damage caused by lightning strikes or other electrical surges that can enter via the Ethernet cable. The device is specifically designed for outdoor use and provides reliable protection for critical security and surveillance systems. It is mounted on a wall or pole and can be installed directly next to an outdoor camera or at the point where the Ethernet cable enters a building, protecting sensitive indoor equipment.
Applications
The AXIS T8061 is intended for use in security and surveillance systems, particularly in environments where Ethernet cables run from outdoor to indoor areas. This includes, for example, surveillance cameras on buildings, industrial facilities, traffic control systems, or other outdoor applications where the risk of lightning damage exists. Installing the device directly at the cable connection point minimizes the likelihood that surges will reach connected devices.
Features and Equipment in Detail
The device protects all eight conductors of an Ethernet cable, including those used for Power over Ethernet (PoE). The AXIS T8061 ensures that these power conductors are also protected against surges. The protection function is rated for surges up to 10 kV, representing a high protection standard against lightning damage.
Technology Explained Simply
The surge protection operates by diverting sudden voltage spikes through specialized protection components integrated into the device. These components react within nanoseconds to divert voltage spikes and protect connected devices. The maximum protection voltage of 10 kV corresponds to a high protection level suitable for use in regions with frequent thunderstorms. Data transmission is not affected, as the device supports data rates up to 1 GBit/s. This enables use with modern Gigabit Ethernet networks without performance loss.
Compatibility and Accessories
The AXIS T8061 is compatible with all Ethernet network devices connected via an RJ45 connector, including IP cameras, switches, and midspans. Support for PoE makes the device particularly suitable for surveillance systems where cameras are powered through the network cable. No special accessories are required to operate the device; installation is direct to a wall or pole.
Mounting and Installation
Mounting is done on a wall or pole, with the device equipped with a weather-resistant housing. Installation is simple and requires no special tools. The device can be mounted directly next to an outdoor camera to keep the connection loop short, or at the point where the cable enters a building to protect the entire indoor installation. The flexible mounting options allow adaptation to different operational conditions.
Advantages in Operation
Using the AXIS T8061 reduces the risk of damage to expensive network devices caused by lightning. The IP66 protection rating ensures the device is protected against dust and water, enabling reliable operation outdoors. UL certification confirms the device meets safety standards. The combination of high protection level, PoE support, and high data rates makes the device a reliable solution for professional security systems.
