Cordless Analogue Phones (DECT/a/b) – Product Details & Advice
DECT cordless phones for analogue connections combine the freedom of wireless DECT radio with the simple analogue a/b connection and are the most common solution for home offices and small businesses. The base system with one base station typically supports 2–6 handsets (expandable by purchasing additional handsets). Features: integrated answering machine (30–60 min.), address book (200–500 entries), baby monitor function, CLIP and number blocker. DECT frequency 1.88–1.90 GHz is EU-standardised and does not overlap with WiFi (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).
ISDN DECT variants: Cordless ISDN Phones. Cordless DECT system phones: DECT System Phones.
Frequently Asked Questions
▶ How many handsets can I add? Most DECT base systems support up to 6 handsets (GAP standard). Gigaset S and E series allow up to 6 compatible Gigaset handsets or GAP-foreign models. Additional handsets are registered at the base without purchasing another base. |
▶ DECT or WiFi – which cordless phone is better for the office? DECT is optimised for telephony: dedicated frequency band (no WiFi interference), low latency (20–25 ms), range 30–50 m indoors. WiFi phones use the existing WiFi network and enable softphone function, but depend on WiFi quality and coverage. For pure fixed-line telephony: DECT. For VoIP integration with UC system: WiFi. |
▶ Can I continue using my old answering machine? Yes, if it has an analogue a/b connection: connect directly to the analogue port of the DECT base. More convenient is an integrated TAM (Telephone Answering Machine) directly in the DECT base station – operated via the handset and enabling remote query via PIN. |
