Cloud telephone systems (hosted PBX, UCaaS – Unified Communications as a Service) move the entire TK infrastructure to the provider's data centre: no own hardware, no maintenance, automatic updates. Terminals (SIP phones, softphones, smartphones) connect via VPN or directly via SIP-TLS to the cloud system. SIP trunking (exchange line) is usually included. STARFACE Cloud and 3CX Hosted are popular solutions in Germany with GDPR-compliant data storage in German data centres. Advantages: cross-site networking, home office integration, scalable (1–1000+ users), monthly cancellable. Disadvantage: dependence on internet connection (recommendation: redundant connection or LTE backup).
