Ubiquiti – network technology with its own management

Ubiquiti was founded in the United States in 2005 and builds network equipment that can be managed through a common interface. The idea behind it: access points, switches, routers and cameras of one installation are not configured individually but together – via a controller that keeps the overview.

In our range access points form the largest group, followed by antennas, SFP modules and switches. Added to this are PoE injectors and converters, surge protection for outdoor runs, network cameras and the hardware controllers used to manage an installation.

For the installer, Power over Ethernet is the real lever: an access point under the ceiling or a camera on the facade then only needs a network cable, no socket. That often decides where a device can be mounted at all.

Why UBIQUITI NETWORKS?

One interface for the installationAccess points, switches and cameras are managed together. This saves individual configuration on every device and keeps later changes manageable.	Power over the data cableWith PoE a device needs only one cable. On a hall ceiling or a facade this is often the difference between mountable and not mountable.
Wireless where there is no cableWireless links connect buildings without excavation work – a solution for sites where a cable would be disproportionately expensive.	Extendable step by stepAn installation can be supplemented with individual access points or switches without touching what already exists.

Frequently asked questions

Do I absolutely need a controller for access points?For operating several devices it is worthwhile: it manages settings, radio channels and networks centrally. It is available as dedicated hardware or as software; for a single installation with few devices it also works without one, each device then being set up individually.

Which PoE standard is required?That depends on the device: older access points manage with the lower power class, outdoor devices and heated cameras need more. What counts is the rating on the device; a switch has to supply the total of all connected devices, not just the individual one.

When is surge protection needed on an Ethernet cable?Whenever a cable leaves the building – for example to an access point on the roof or a camera on the fence. Without protection a nearby lightning strike carries the voltage right into the switch.
