TURCK – sensors and connectivity from Mülheim

TURCK was founded in 1965 by the brothers Werner and Hans Turck and is based in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The company builds the components through which a machine perceives what happens around it – and the cables that carry that signal into the controller.

In our range the inductive proximity switch is by far the largest group: cylindrical designs from M8 to M30, rectangular versions and slot sensors, flush and non-flush mountable. Alongside these are photoelectric sensors and light barriers, cordsets with M12 connectors, splitter systems and isolating amplifiers.

For maintenance staff the connection technology is the real key. A sensor with a plug connection is replaced within minutes in the event of a fault, without anyone opening the control cabinet – provided the pin assignment, number of poles and cable length match.

Inductive proximity switchesNon-contact detection of metal – cylindrical in the common thread sizes, rectangular for confined installations, as slot sensors for cylinder position sensing. With switching or analogue output, flush or non-flush mountable. The largest group in our range.	Photoelectric sensors and light barriersRetro-reflective sensors and barriers, through-beam barriers with separate emitter and receiver, and light curtains for guarding access points. For objects that are not metal or have to be detected at greater distance.
Cordsets and connectivityPre-assembled cables with M8 and M12 connectors, straight and angled, in PUR and PVC, in graded lengths. Plus couplers, extensions and field-wireable connectors. Why TURCK?

Plug instead of terminalAlmost everything is available as a plug-in version. Replacing a sensor during operation therefore takes minutes rather than a shift, and nobody has to wire inside the cabinet.	Designs you can find againThe common thread sizes and rectangular formats have stayed the same for years. A replacement therefore usually fits the existing bracket, even if the type is a few years old.
Sensor and cable from one sourceSwitching function, pin assignment and sheath material match from the outset – which saves hunting for the right cable at a third supplier.	Signal chain into the controllerFrom sensor through splitter and I/O module to the isolating amplifier – one brand for the whole path simplifies documentation and spare parts stock.

Frequently asked questions

What does flush and non-flush mountable mean?A flush mountable sensor may be fully embedded in metal without the surrounding material disturbing the field. A non-flush mountable one needs a clear area around the head but achieves a greater sensing distance. Both are part of the type designation and cannot be changed afterwards.

How do I tell whether a sensor switches PNP or NPN?From the type designation: codes containing AP indicate a normally open PNP output, AN indicates NPN. When replacing an existing sensor this has to match, otherwise the input card does not evaluate the signal.

Which cable length should I choose?As short as possible and as long as necessary – the pre-assembled cables come in graded lengths. Coiled-up excess length in the cable duct is both a source of interference and a waste of space; over longer distances an extension from a splitter is the cleaner solution.
