TP-Link – network technology from the desk to the branch officeTP-Link was founded in 1996 and started with network cards and Ethernet adapters before the focus shifted to wireless technology. Today the range extends from a single repeater to a managed installation across several sites. In our range wireless routers form the largest group, followed by access points, switches in the smaller port counts, media converters, VPN routers and SFP modules. Added to this are powerline adapters, PoE injectors and the VIGI series with network recorders and cameras. For smaller sites this is the practical middle ground: manageable enough for several devices, but without the effort of a large installation. Where a cable is missing, powerline adapters bridge the distance over the existing mains wiring. |

Frequently asked questions
How does an access point differ from a repeater?A repeater receives the existing radio signal and passes it on – which usually halves throughput and is a stopgap. An access point is connected to a network cable and creates its own full-value radio cell. Wherever a cable exists or can be laid, it is always the better choice.
What does a managed switch offer over an unmanaged one?It allows separated networks, prioritisation and port monitoring. For a small network with few devices the unmanaged one is sufficient; as soon as guest network, telephony or cameras are to run separately, there is no way around the managed version.
When does powerline make sense and when not?It makes sense when no cable can be laid and the route stays within one circuit. Across different phases, through intermediate meters or over long distances the data rate drops noticeably – there a cable or a wireless link is more reliable.
