Cordless Phone Handsets – Product Details & Advice
Individual DECT handsets enable expansion of existing DECT systems without purchasing a new base station. GAP-compatible handsets can be registered at any GAP base; full functionality (CAT-iq functions, PBX integration) only with manufacturer-matched models. Feature differences: simple models with small LCD vs. premium handsets with 2.4–3.5 inch colour display, Bluetooth (for headset or smartphone pairing), speed dial direct keys and HD audio (G.722). Rugged handsets (splash-proof, drop-resistant) are suitable for warehouses and light industrial environments.
Accessories for handsets: Cordless Phone Accessories. DECT base stations: DECT Base Stations.
Frequently Asked Questions
▶ Can I use a Gigaset handset on a Panasonic base? For basic functions (calling, hanging up, volume) yes – provided both support GAP. Advanced functions (phone book synchronisation, answering machine remote query, proprietary display menus) are not available in foreign operation. For full functionality: handset and base from the same manufacturer. |
▶ What is CAT-iq in DECT handsets? CAT-iq (Cordless Advanced Technology – internet and quality) is a DECT profile for IP services: it extends GAP with VoIP (SIP), contact/calendar synchronisation, HD audio and data services. CAT-iq 1.0 is the base version; CAT-iq 2.0 enables manufacturer-interoperable IP-DECT. Recommended for new purchases intended to support SIP-capable IP PBX systems. |
▶ How do I register a new handset at my base? Standard registration process (GAP): (1) Put base into registration mode (button on base or menu in web interface). (2) On handset: menu → settings → register base (or similar, depending on manufacturer). (3) Enter PIN if required (default: 0000 or 1234). (4) Base automatically closes registration mode after approx. 90 seconds. |
