▶ Which phones continue to work without mains power? Analogue phones (a/b interface) are powered via the telephone line (48 V DC idle voltage, 60 V AC ringing voltage). During a power outage, they remain operational – provided the telephone network is still functioning. ISDN and IP phones require their own power supply (mains adapter or PoE) and fail during a power outage unless a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) is installed. |
▶ What is DTMF dialling? DTMF (Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency) is the current standard dialling method: each key sends a combination of two sine tones decoded by the exchange. DTMF phones are compatible with all modern analogue connections and PBX systems. The older pulse dialling (IWV) method is obsolete and barely supported. |
▶ What is the RJ9 headset connector on a phone? RJ9 (4P4C, 4-pin, 4 contacts) is the standard headset connector on desk phones widely used in North America and also Europe. It is used for connecting wired mono headsets (quick disconnect cables). Alternatively, modern office phones offer a 3.5 mm jack or USB headset support. For wireless headsets on a phone (without PC), an EHS adapter (Electronic Hook Switch) is required. |
