DECT Repeaters – Product Details & Advice
DECT repeaters amplify and extend the DECT radio coverage of a base station without occupying additional PBX connections. They register at the base station and act as relays: handsets communicate with the repeater, which forwards the signal to the base. GAP-compatible repeaters are manufacturer-independent and work with most DECT base stations. Manufacturer-specific repeaters (e.g. Gigaset Repeater 2.0 for Gigaset bases) often offer better integration. Typical range extension: +30–50 m per repeater. Maximum 2–4 repeaters in series possible (manufacturer-dependent).

Frequently Asked Questions
▶ How many repeaters can I operate on one DECT base? Depending on the manufacturer and model, 2–6 repeaters can be registered at one DECT base. Per repeater chain, usually 2 repeaters in series are possible (base → repeater 1 → repeater 2). Each repeater slightly reduces possible simultaneous calls (as it uses bandwidth). For larger areas, we recommend multi-cell DECT systems. |
▶ Repeater or second base station – which is better? A second base station is more powerful: full channel capacity, no latency doubling, handover between bases possible. A repeater is easier to install (no additional PBX connection, no network cable) and cheaper. For extensions of 1–2 rooms: repeater. For large areas or high call density: second base. |
▶ Does a DECT repeater reduce voice quality? DECT repeaters can slightly affect voice quality: each repeater stage adds a small delay (approx. 2–5 ms) and reduces possible data throughput. With 2 repeaters in series, the total delay can become noticeable. High-quality repeaters (e.g. Gigaset Repeater 2.0) are optimised for the DECT audio profile and show barely noticeable quality loss. |
