eGK Card Terminals – gematik-Approved Terminals for the German Health Telematic Infrastructure
|
eGK terminals are stationary or mobile card read/write devices for the elektronische Gesundheitskarte (eGK)– the statutory health insurance chip card issued to all GKV members in Germany. In GP practices, dental practices, hospitals and pharmacies they are mandatory: they read the patient master data, enable online verification and updating via the Telematikinfrastruktur (TI), and form the technical basis for the billing workflow with the Kassenaerztliche Vereinigungen (KV). Since the mandatory TI connection under § 291 SGB V, the use of gematik-approved terminals is required by law for all contracted medical practices in Germany. Current eGK terminals communicate via the Konnektorwith the TI and support, in addition to the eGK, the Heilberufsausweis (HBA)and Secure Module Card (SMC-B)for qualified electronic signatures (QES). Modern devices are also prepared for the ePA(electronic patient record) and E-Rezept(electronic prescription).
