There are several different touchscreen technologies, that determine the pressure points in different ways:
Resistive Touchscreens:
This type works by using two special foils. By touching the display, a weak electrical impulse is being generated, because the foil underneath is conductive.
Capacitive Touchscreens:
Capacitive touchscreens work by a weak electric field that is generated through electrodes. When touching parts of the charges are diverted and the electric field shifts.
Optic Touchscreens:
Optical systems work by lamps and light-sensitive sensors. These are embedded in the frame of the touchscreens and generate a grid of light barriers.
Inductive Touchscreens:
This touchscreens can only be operated by a special pen. That is why this technology can almost only be found in graphic tablets, because the positioning is extremely exact.
