What does a Hobbes cable tester actually check?

Hobbes cable testers check patch cables and installation cables for continuity on all wire pairs (wiremap), detecting short circuits, open circuits and miswiring (split pairs). Higher-end models additionally measure cable length via TDR, assess attenuation and test for PoE suitability.

Which crimping tool do I need for network cable termination?

For RJ45 connectors (8P8C) on Cat5e/Cat6 cables, a crimping tool for 8-position modular connectors is required. Hobbes offers models for STP and UTP connectors, for pass-through connectors (with cable exit at the front) and combination tools with integrated cutting and stripping. For Cat6A and Cat7, tools with higher crimping force are recommended.

How does a punchdown tool work?

Punchdown tools press individual wires into the insulation displacement contacts (IDC) of patch panels and outlet modules (110-type or Krone/LSA-type). At the same time, they cut off the protruding wire end. Hobbes offers individual tools and sets – for 110 and LSA clips, with or without an automatic cutting mechanism.
