Which Hirschmann industrial switch is suitable for PROFINET applications? The MACH and OCTOPUS series are PROFINET IO Device-certified and support RT as well as IRT communication. They can be configured directly in Siemens TIA Portal as network nodes. For simple topologies without managed features, the SPIDER or GECKO line is sufficient.

What is the difference between HIPER-Ring and RSTP on Hirschmann switches? HIPER-Ring is Hirschmann's proprietary redundancy protocol with recovery times below 500 ms for up to 50 devices. RSTP (IEEE 802.1w) is the vendor-neutral standard with significantly longer convergence times (typically 1–10 s). HIPER-Ring is the first choice for time-critical automation applications; RSTP is more flexible for heterogeneous multi-vendor environments.

Which Hirschmann M12 connectors are approved for hazardous areas (ATEX)? Hirschmann offers M12 connectors with ATEX/IECEx certification for Zone 1 and Zone 2 (gas) and Zone 21 and Zone 22 (dust). Versions are available in D-coding (Ethernet/PROFINET), A-coding (sensor/actuator) and B-coding (PROFIBUS). Please specify the protection class, coding and number of poles when enquiring.
