Hebotec – shield contacting and cable routing

HEBOTEC was founded in 2003 and is based in Mössingen in Baden-Württemberg. The company deals with a question that arises in every control cabinet and is usually considered too late: how does the shield of a cable reach earth properly, and how is the cable held while doing so?

In our range shield clamps form the largest group, followed by strain reliefs, the matching rails and flat braided earthing straps. Added to this are hook-and-loop tape from the roll, reusable cable ties, cable retaining strips and connector holders.

For the panel builder this is not a side issue. A shield led to the terminal through a single drain wire has hardly any effect at high frequencies; full-surface contacting through a clamp is the difference between an installation that causes interference and one that does not.

Why Hebotec?

Shield contacted over its surface, not by a wireThe clamp contacts the shield all round. That is the decisive difference from the drain wire, which achieves almost nothing at higher frequencies.	Holding and contacting in one placeShield connection and strain relief sit on the same rail. This saves space and a second operation.
Releasable where things still changeHook-and-loop tape can be opened and reused. In an installation that is still growing this is more practical than new cable ties each time.	Clamping ranges instead of one sizeThe clamps come in graded sizes. Chosen to suit the cable, the shield is held firmly without crushing the cores.

Frequently asked questions

Which shield clamp suits my cable?What counts is the cable diameter at the point where the shield is exposed. The clamps are graded in clamping ranges; the matching range appears in our item titles. A clamp that is too large does not hold, one that is too small crushes the cores.

Why is the drain wire not enough for the shield connection?At low frequencies it is, above that no longer: the single wire acts as an inductance and hardly conducts high-frequency interference away. Full-surface contacting through a clamp provides the path the shield needs.

Why is a flat braided strap needed between door and housing?For equipotential bonding. Hinges are not a reliable electrical connection – they are greased and oxidise. A flexible braided strap establishes the connection permanently, even if the door is moved a hundred times.
