EPA GmbH – Competence Partner for EMC Engineering and Drive Solutions

EPA GmbH was founded in 1988 in Bruchköbel (Hesse, Germany) as a sales company for frequency inverters. Since 1995, EPA has been developing and manufacturing its own EMC filters and sine filters, establishing itself as a mid-sized specialist for EMC engineering and drive systems. The company maintains a warehouse with over 2,000 different products for short-term deliveries.

The product portfolio includes mains input filters, output filters and sine filters (SFAF series) for frequency inverters, leakage current compensation devices and protective earth monitoring, frequency inverters and servo motors, EMC measurement services, and complete control cabinet assemblies on request. All in-house developments are produced with short lead times for customer-specific solutions.

Mains Filters & EMC Input Filters Mains input filters for frequency inverters, servo drives and industrial power supplies to reduce conducted interference emissions. Available for single- and three-phase networks up to 600 A. Sine Filters (SFAF Series) Output sine filters for frequency inverters with long motor cables (up to 600 A). Why are EMC filters necessary for frequency inverters? Frequency inverters generate high-frequency interference voltages through their pulse-width modulation, which can disturb other devices via the supply network (conducted emissions). EMC filters attenuate these interferences to the legally required level – necessary for CE compliance of the complete machine under EN 61800-3.
What is a sine filter and when is it needed? A sine filter is used at the output of a frequency inverter when long motor cables (over 50–100 m) are used. It converts the PWM output voltage into a sinusoidal voltage, protecting the motor winding insulation against voltage spikes and reducing parasitic bearing currents that lead to premature motor failure.
