Digium was founded in 1999 in Huntsville, Alabama, USA by Mark Spencer and is the original developer and primary sponsor of Asterisk – the world's most widely deployed open-source telephony platform. Since 2018, Digium has been part of Sangoma Technologies Corporation, offering a complete portfolio of VoIP hardware and communication solutions for businesses of all sizes.

The product portfolio includes analogue telephony cards of the A series (A4, A8 with FXO/FXS ports), digital T1/E1 cards of the TE series (up to 120 channels), IP phones of the D series, VoIP gateways, and the Switchvox unified communications platform. What is Asterisk and what is it used for? Asterisk is an open-source PBX software platform developed by Digium. It enables the construction of professional enterprise telephone systems, call centre systems, IVR servers and unified communications solutions on standard PC hardware – with no per-extension licence fees.
Which Digium telephony cards are suitable for T1/E1 lines? For T1, E1 and J1 primary rate connections, the digital TE series cards (e.g. TE235, TE435) are designed. They support up to 120 voice channels per card and are suitable for use in larger enterprises and call centres with high call volumes.
Is Digium hardware still available after the Sangoma acquisition? Yes, since the acquisition by Sangoma Technologies in 2018, Digium products continue to be sold and developed under the Digium brand.
