Die Baureihe DS250N-UC sind spezielle FI/LS-Kombinationen für den Einsatz im Bereich von Gleichstrom-Nahverkehrsbahnen, insbesondere innerhalb des Oberleitungsbereichs. Sie wurden in Anlehnung an die obigen Produktnormen entwickelt und entsprechen exakt den Empfehlungen der VDV-Schrift 509 (10/08): 'Einsatz von Fehlerstrom(FI)-Schutzschaltungen in elektrischen Energieanlagen von Gleichstrom-Nahverkehrsbahnen'.
Die DS250N-UC bestehen aus einem allstromsensitiven FI-Block (Typ B) und einem LS-Teil aus ein bzw. drei Außenleiterpolen in AC-Ausführung sowie zwei gegenläufig geschalteten Neutralleiterpolen in UC-Ausführung - für die polaritätsunabhängige Abschaltung von Gleichströme (N-UC: N Pol für Universal Current).
Somit können die hohen Ausgleichs-Gleichströme zwischen dem Neutralleiter des allgemeinen Netzes und der DC-Erde (dem Rückleiter des Gleichstrom-Bahnnetzes) - oder umgekehrt - sicher abgeschaltet werden.
