Every experienced fleet manager knows that the proper management of trailers and tanks is an essential part of the logistics business - whether national or international. Failure to do so will ultimately lead to fleet clutter, theft or unauthorized use, delays, customer complaints, a weakened reputation and reduced competitiveness, fewer orders, lower profits and a lower return on investment. It is no longer a “nice to have” option, but a business necessity to keep a logistics company afloat.
Dispatchers, fleet managers and business leaders need to know the status of a trailer in real time - location, mileage, which driver is using it, whether they have dropped off or picked up a load, how many stops they have made on a given day or route, where the trailer is parked, which driver is closest to the trailer, and so on.
In addition, the responsible managers need to know the productivity of each facility - how many hours did they use each trailer in a given shift, week, month or quarter? It is a common practice in most companies to hold assets and employees accountable in one way or another by recording, tracking and analyzing their workload.
Thanks to Teltonika Telematics' newly launched EYE Beacon model, Bluetooth wireless technology and smart thinking, there are ways to easily overcome these challenges with maximum results.
Solution
All Teltonika GPS trackers based on the FMB platform support Bluetooth LE wireless connectivity, allowing them to effectively communicate with Bluetooth wireless devices such as beacons and sensors. The lightweight and small EYE Beacons should be placed on the front of any type of trailer to be tracked and monitored - flatbed, chassis and box trailers, dry van trailers, refrigerated trailers, intermodal chassis and/or containers, refrigerated trailers, life haul trailers, frac -Tanks, etc.
Here's how it works - since each BLE beacon has a unique ID number that is transmitted over the air as a radio signal at configurable intervals, Teltonika GPS trackers (in this case FMC130) read and identify those in trucks and trailers, and send this data as an iBeacon or Eddystone profile, combined with their GNSS location details, to a server for analysis and reporting. Special software displays the location of all beacons (and therefore the tagged fleet) based on proximity to the nearest tracker and helps manage the allocation process for BLE accessories and so on.
In addition, any trailer with an EYE Beacon attached can be tracked in real time via any smart device with an Internet connection - whether a phone, tablet computer, laptop or desktop PC. This means fleet managers know exactly what is going on and can plan their next steps promptly and efficiently. No more old-fashioned pen and paper methods or guesswork, which are notoriously inconvenient and error-prone.
The EYE Beacon model has two prominent features - 'Proximity Event' and 'Detection By Filters'. Thanks to these features and the advanced Teltonika GPS device configuration, it offers a choice of different settings and scenarios to meet the needs of the logistics fleet.
