Near-field probes for measuring magnetic fields and electric fields - now in a wooden box!
The near-field probes for measuring the magnetic field (H20, H10 and H5) and electric field (E5) are used to test interference radiation as part of EMC precompliance tests. They are used to locate potential sources of interference from components within electronic assemblies. The probes also work as broadband antennas to measure interference radiation from components, conductor tracks, housing openings or gaps and all other parts that could emit HF radiation. The probes are usually connected to the spectrum analyzer. Run the probe over the surface of an assembled circuit board or housing to quickly identify locations where electromagnetic radiation is emitted. By switching to smaller probe sizes, the origin of the radiation can be gradually narrowed down.
Another application is testing RF immunity by feeding a high-frequency signal into the probe, which can be irradiated onto potentially sensitive circuits. In addition, the probes can be used in repairs or troubleshooting to detect problems in the RF signal chain through non-contact measurement of the RF signal level. Another application is the non-invasive measurement of RF components such as modulators or oscillators. Frequency, phase noise and spectral components can be measured in combination with a low-noise preamplifier.
