Screwdrivers – Technical Background & Applications

VDE-insulated screwdrivers per EN 60900 are the basic tool of every electrician and network technician. The range covers slot, cross-head (PH/PZ), Torx, TORX PLUS and hex screwdrivers in all blade sizes. Ergonomic handles with soft zones (e.g. Wiha SoftFinish, Wera Kraftform) reduce hand strain during repetitive work. Slim electricians' series are available for precision electrical installation; blades with a power drive and reinforced shank handle high-torque applications.

Magnetisable blades and bit-holder versions round off the range. Related categories: spanners, tool sets. Enquiries: +49 (0)7666 / 88499-0.

Frequently Asked Questions

▶ What does the VDE marking mean on screwdrivers?
The VDE marking confirms that the screwdriver has been tested per EN 60900 and approved for work on parts up to 1,000 V AC / 1,500 V DC. Each tool is individually tested for voltage resistance. The lightning-in-circle logo with '1000V' is mandatory when working on live parts.
▶ What is the difference between PH and PZ cross-head?
PH (Phillips) and PZ (Pozidriv) are two different cross-head systems. PH is common in electronics and the American market; PZ has additional ribs and transmits higher torques without cam-out — standard in European woodworking and metalworking. Using the wrong type damages the screw head.
▶ Are there screwdrivers specifically for network technology?
Yes. For network cabling, slim electricians' screwdrivers (e.g. Wiha 320 series) with a long, thin blade are particularly suitable — for hard-to-reach terminal springs in patch panels and outlets. Complementary tools include punch-down tools for LSA terminals and crimping pliers for RJ45 connectors.
