Mobile Phone Antennas

External antennas for mobile phones and GSM/LTE modems improve reception in low-signal buildings, basements, vehicles and areas with sparse network infrastructure. Applications: LTE routers with external antenna (SMA socket), GSM gateways, industrial IoT devices, vehicle mounting (magnetic mount antenna on car roof). Note bandwidth: multiband antennas (700/800/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz) cover all common LTE bands; 5G antennas additionally need the sub-6 GHz band (3.5 GHz). Cables and adapters (SMA, FME, TS9, CRC9) must match the device's antenna input.

Common Manufacturers: Delock • Poynting • Panorama • Taoglas • Zyxel

Frequently Asked Questions

▶ Which antenna improves LTE reception in buildings?
For buildings we recommend outdoor antennas with magnetic mount or wall mounting (Poynting XPOL-1, Panorama LGMM) combined with an LTE booster/repeater that distributes the amplified signal indoors. Alternatively: LTE router with external antenna near a window, distribution via LAN/WiFi in the building. Direct repeaters in the GSM/LTE band require approval in Germany (Bundesnetzagentur).
▶ What do SMA, FME, TS9, CRC9 mean for antenna connectors?
SMA: standard coaxial connector (50 ohm), widely used in WiFi routers and industrial devices. FME: smaller than SMA, used in consumer antennas. TS9: mini connector in Huawei/ZTE mobile modems and hotspots (no coaxial cable). CRC9: similar to TS9, in Huawei routers. Adapters between types are available, but adapter cascades attenuate the signal.
▶ Do I need a new antenna for 5G?
Yes – 5G devices (sub-6 GHz, band n78: 3.5 GHz) require antennas covering the 3.5 GHz band. Older LTE multiband antennas are designed for 700–2600 MHz and often do not cover 3.5 GHz. For 5G mmWave (26 GHz, still rare in Germany), specialised patch antennas are required. Check the antenna's frequency band data sheet before purchasing.
