Audio Conferencing Integration Solutions

Audio conferencing integration solutions are professional DSP-based systems for large conference rooms, boardrooms and multipurpose halls that go far beyond simple speakerphones. Ceiling microphone arrays (Shure MXA910, Biamp Tesira) capture from the ceiling and are invisible – without obtrusive table microphones. Dante network audio (AES67, proprietary) transmits digital audio losslessly over standard Ethernet networks and simplifies large room installations with many microphone and speaker nodes. DSP platforms (Biamp Tesira, QSC Q-SYS) provide programmable signal processing: AEC, routing, level normalisation, automixing.

Common Manufacturers: Shure • Biamp • Yamaha • QSC • ClearOne

Frequently Asked Questions

▶ What is Dante and why is it used for professional audio?
Dante (Audinate) is a network audio protocol that transmits lossless digital audio over standard IP Ethernet (up to 1024 channels, <1 ms latency at 100 Mbit/s). Advantages over analogue cabling: unlimited channel count over CAT cable, simple re-patching via software, compatible with hundreds of devices (Shure, Yamaha, QSC, Biamp). AES67 is the open standard for audio over IP with which Dante is interoperable.
▶ When do I need a ceiling microphone array instead of table microphones?
Ceiling microphone arrays make sense when: (1) the conference room has over 5 m table length (>12 people), (2) a modern, uncluttered design without table microphones is desired, (3) the room needs to be flexibly seated (no fixed seating arrangement), (4) integration with room control and video system is required. Costs: Shure MXA910 approx. 2,500 EUR + DSP + installation; significantly more than speakerphones.
▶ What is automatic mixing (automixing) in DSP systems?
Automixing is a DSP function that dynamically manages multiple active microphones (e.g. 8 table microphones): only the microphone(s) of the currently speaking participant is/are activated; others are muted or reduced in level. This significantly reduces noise and echo susceptibility. Well-known algorithms: NOM-Logic, Dugan Automixing.
