Products of Plextor

Company Profile
Founded in 1989 by Shinano Kenshi Co., Ltd., Plextor became renowned for its high-quality optical drives, particularly CD and DVD burners, which gained a loyal following among PC enthusiasts. In the 2000s, Plextor expanded into Solid-State Drives (SSDs), building on its reputation for reliability and performance. In 2019, Plextor was acquired by Kioxia Corporation (formerly Toshiba Memory), a leader in NAND flash technology.
Product Range
- Optical Drives: Known for advanced features like GigaRec and Silent Mode in CD/DVD burners.
- Solid-State Drives (SSDs): SATA and PCIe SSDs for both consumer and enterprise markets, leveraging Marvell controllers and custom firmware.
Why Plextor?
Plextor earned a stellar reputation for producing durable, high-performance storage solutions. Despite this, Plextor struggled to keep up with the latest SSD technologies, leading Kioxia to discontinue the brand in 2024. Existing products will continue to receive support, but no new products will be released under the Plextor name.
