Network Associates, Inc. was formed in 1997 through the merger of McAfee and Network General, creating a significant player in network security and management. Initially, McAfee was known for its antivirus software, but under CEO Bill Larson, the company expanded through acquisitions of companies like Brightwork Development and Saber Software. The merger with Network General brought the renowned Sniffer network diagnostic tool into the fold, solidifying Network Associates’ position in the market.
