HQI – Metal Halide LampsHQI lamps (metal halide lamps, also HIT or CMH/CDM) offer significantly better colour rendering (Ra 80–95) and higher luminous efficacy compared to HQL. They are the standard in museums, department stores, sports venues and stage lighting. Types: HQI-T (double-ended, Rx7s/Fc2), HQI-E (single-ended, E27/E40), CDM-T/TC (ceramic, G12/PGZ12, instant re-ignition after 60 s). Colour temperatures: 3000 K (warm), 4200 K (neutral), 6000 K (daylight). Warm-up time 2–4 min., CDM ≈ 60 s. CDM/CMH ceramic lamps are considered the most efficient high-pressure discharge lamps for retail and accent lighting. LED is available as an energy-efficient alternative for new installations; however, CDM lamps remain competitive for colour rendering Ra 90+ and very high illuminance requirements. What is the difference between HQI and CDM/CMH?
HQI = classic metal halide lamp with quartz envelope. CDM/CMH = ceramic burner tube, better colour consistency, higher colour rendering, faster re-ignition.
Can HQI be replaced by LED?
Yes – LED spots with G12 socket or LED spotlights replace CDM lamps. Pay attention to identical luminous flux (lm) and beam angle, not just wattage.
