PA loudspeaker boxes for small to large PA requirements – from compact 8-inch tops for speech and background music to 15-inch full-range boxes for mid-size events and 18-inch subwoofers for bass-intensive applications. Passive boxes need a separate amplifier; active boxes have the amplifier built in and are ready to use immediately. Designs: Wedge monitors (angled front) for stage monitoring, pole-mount tops for front-of-house PA on speaker stands, flying boxes with rigging hardware for ceiling mounting and line arrays, subwoofers (passive/active) for frequencies below 150 Hz. Key specs: Rated power handling (W RMS), sensitivity (dB/W/m), frequency response (Hz), dispersion angle (H/V), impedance (4/8/16 Ω). Applications: club event and disco, live concert (FOH/monitoring), conference and trade fair, sports event, mobile DJ. How many watts do I need for my event?
Rule of thumb: 1–2 W/m² floor area for speech, 3–5 W/m² for music. For 100 m² event space: 300–500 W RMS (passive). Active boxes often sound louder at the same wattage due to optimised amp-driver tuning.
When do I need a subwoofer?
For music reproduction below 80 Hz (kick drum, bass) and when requirements exceed 100 dB SPL. For pure speech PA (conference, trade fair) no subwoofer is needed. Subwoofers should be active or operated with a suitable crossover.
Passive or active – which is better?
Active: plug-and-play, compact, no separate amplifier. Ideal for mobile DJ/PA use. Passive: more flexibly scalable, amplifiers replaceable separately, more economical for large systems. For beginners and mobile use we recommend active speakers.
