Characteristics of thermal paper
Due to its properties thermal paper has prevailed for use as cash register rolls. This is a special type of paper that has been developed for use in thermal printing processes. The side that is printed on has a temperature-sensitive layer. If this layer heats up, a certain dye is formed. On this thermosenstive layer various binders, formers and auxiliary materials exist. In addition, the cash register rolls have pigments and developers. Cahs register rolls are offered in different font colors. In Germany black has been established as the favorite color, right behind blue.
Several color levels possible
Basically receipt rolls can also be printed in full color. Only high pressure temperatures are required for that. The printer must be designed for using this paper rolls. This paper rolls, however, need more expensive equipment. For this reason, they are rarely used in industrial and commercial applications as well. In general, the thermal paper is wrapped around a plastic core. Some manufacturers also use a cardboard core. The basis weights range from 48 to 240 g / m².
