ifm – sensors for automationifm electronic was founded in Essen in 1969 and is today one of the leading suppliers of industrial sensors. The company develops and manufactures in house – position sensing, process sensing, communication and connection technology come from one source and are therefore built to work together. What stands out is less any single device than the consistency: the same housings, the same connection patterns, the same parameter handling over IO-Link. Once a plant is built around it, components can be replaced later without changing the concept. On the hardware of its catalogue products ifm grants 60 months from delivery. That is considerably more than the statutory period and says more about the production than any data sheet: such a promise only adds up if almost nothing comes back. |

How does a warranty case work?Contact us with the ifm article number and a short fault description. Note that ifm requires a prompt notice of defects – obvious ones within one month of delivery. So unpack new goods on arrival.
Can ifm equipment be leased?For larger purchases we offer leasing through GrenkeLeasing – for customers based in Germany. You place the order, we prepare the leasing application, the leasing company decides.

Five years of warranty – what that tells you
On the hardware of its catalogue products, ifm grants 60 months from delivery. Five years in which the manufacturer stands behind the function of the device, provided it is operated within its specification. That is considerably more than the statutory period and far from usual in automation technology.
The number matters less than what it presupposes. A five-year promise only adds up for a manufacturer if almost nothing comes back. ifm therefore tests beyond the standards: continuous load, temperature cycling, humidity, vibration, close-range high-pressure washdown. Anyone fitting a sensor into a plant meant to run for a decade is not buying the data sheet – they are buying the years that follow.
What to do if something fails
Contact us with the ifm article number and a short fault description. We handle the process with the manufacturer; ifm then decides between repair and a replacement device.
One point that is easily missed: ifm requires a prompt notice of defects. Obvious defects must be reported within one month of delivery, later ones within one month of discovery. It pays to unpack new goods on arrival rather than when the machine is being built. The full terms are published by ifm under “Warranty Policy” and apply to catalogue products in the version dated 06/2025.
