The XS505M is equipped with copper Ethernet ports that provide either Fast Ethernet, 1 Gigabit, 2.5 Gigabit, 5 Gigabit, or 10 Gigabit connectivity. An SFP+ fiber optic port with 1 Gigabit or 10 Gigabit connectivity is also available.
Each port automatically detects what speed is required by the connected device and delivers the appropriate speed. Unlike regular 10 Gigabit switches that only deliver 1 Gigabit connectivity for any device that requires less than 10 Gigabit, the XS505M delivers exactly the speed you need, without downgrading. The new NETGEAR Multi-Speed Switch Ports can also be connected with regular Cat5E Ethernet cables, without upgrading existing cables to Cat6. This avoids costs and effort for new cabling.
