Surges are voltages that exceed the permitted range of operating voltages for Mobotix IP cameras. The max. Operating voltage for PoE is z. B. 57 V. surges do not necessarily lead to damage to Mobotix IP cameras. Only when the operating voltage is exceeded by a multiple of the over-voltage or over a long period or even permanently applied, there will be damages.
Examples of causes of surges
-Direct Lightning strike to the installation itself or in the network cable
-Blitzeinschlag In the power supply or ground in the vicinity (about 100 km radius)
-Turn Of larger loads, in particular when parallel routing of network and power cables
Note: - The distance between MX-Over Voltage Protection Box and Mobotix camera must not be more than 50 cm.
-An MX-Over-Voltage Protection box protects against surges up to 4kV on the network line, but not against direct lightning strike.
Overvoltage protection
To reduce the risk of damage from power surges, typically a surge concept is drawn by an expert and implemented. This is subdivided into different surge zones, where there are specific and general countermeasures for each zone. These range from lightning equipment on the use of double-shielded network cable through to fine surge protection for devices. When selecting the countermeasures are not only technical, but also economic aspects play a role, so that a proper balance between protection and cost is found.
The MX-Over Voltage Protection Box RJ45 and the MX-Over Voltage Protection Box LSA can be used in most areas, providing a cost-effective protection against overvoltage.
