The Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) design allows for space-saving installations with high port density on network cards. Thanks to their hot-swap capability, modules can be replaced during operation without disrupting the network. Variants with Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) provide additional functionality, such as monitoring of temperature, signal strength, and power levels. WDM models enable bidirectional data transfer over a single fiber by using different wavelengths for transmission (TX) and reception (RX).
