If an existing SATA power connector on the power supply needs to be adapted to the power connector of a SlimSATA drive, the adapter cable provides a direct connection. This allows a slimline optical drive to be powered within a suitable computer system. This is particularly useful in compact set-ups where a DVD or Blu-ray drive with a SlimSATA connector is used.
