Arc fault protective device (AFDD) with residual current device (RCBO) according to IEC/EN 62606 (VDE 0665-10) and IEC/EN 61009-1 (VDE 0664-20), IEC/EN 61009-2-1 (VDE 0664-21) offer protection against serial and parallel arc faults, protection against overcurrent (overload or short circuit), protection against sinusoidal alternating currents and pulsating currents with smooth DC residual current of up to 6 mA to earth. As well as fault protection (protection against indirect contact) and additional protection (with I¿n = 30 mA). Protection against overvoltage (only for AFDD internal) and protection against electrically ignited fires according to DIN VDE 0100-420.
Mandatory areas of use according to DIN VDE 0100-420 are in single-phase alternating current systems with In = 16 A in bedrooms or common rooms in homes and day care facilities for children, disabled or elderly people or in barrier-free apartments as well as in rooms or places with a fire risk (with a particular fire risk, fire-prone premises), predominantly/mainly made of flammable building materials (classification of the flammability of the building materials is the responsibility of the manufacturer of the wooden house, for example), endangering irreplaceable goods - cultural assets with a particularly high value and in single-phase final circuits that supply electrical equipment in the areas mentioned or cross these areas. The use of AFDDs is recommended in rooms with sleeping facilities, rooms or places with a fire-spreading structure and final circuits with a high connected load.
In general, the AFDD is also recommended to increase fire protection against electrically ignited fires.
