Due to the modularity of Telegärtner's MPO/MTP cabling system, installers and operators spend less time and effort installing, modifying and maintaining structured communications cabling for today's and tomorrow's data centers (according to EN50173-5:2007 and ISO/IEC 24764:2010). The MPO/MTP connector, which is specified and standardized in the IEC 61754-7 and TIA/EIA 604-5 standards, is the first choice for an ITS (Information Transport System) in the commercial buildings and data centers of tomorrow, which require ever greater bandwidths and higher speeds. It can be used for parallel optical applications such as Infiniband with data rates of up to 120 Gb/s as well as for future Ethernet protocols with 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s over OM3, OM4 and OS2 multimode fibers. Similar to the well-known MT-RJ connector, the MPO/MTP connector contains multiple fibers in a single high-precision ferrule that can be PC or APC polished to achieve a typical insertion loss of 0.25 dB and a return loss of >60 dB for singlemode and an insertion loss of 0.2 dB and a return loss of >30 dB for multimode.
