The Moxa NPort 5150 is a compact Device-Server from the NPort 5100 Series, integrating serial devices such as card readers, payment terminals or industrial controls into Ethernet networks. It enables network capability for serial communication devices by converting RS-232/422/485 interfaces into IP-based connections. Integration is achieved via a DB9 connector for the serial interface and an RJ45 port for the Ethernet connection. The devices are designed for use in industrial and commercial environments where stable and reliable communication is required.

Functions and Features in Detail
The Device-Server provides Real COM/TTY drivers for operating systems such as Windows, Linux and macOS, making serial devices in the network appear as local COM ports. Configuration is performed via a web browser, Telnet or a Windows utility software, simplifying setup even for less technically experienced users. The devices support various operating modes, including TCP Server/Client, UDP, Pair Connection, Ethernet Modem and Reverse Telnet, to meet different communication requirements. For RS-485 applications, adjustable Pull-Up/-Down resistors and termination resistors are available, configurable via jumpers.

Technology Explained Simply
The serial interface of the NPort 5150 supports baud rates from 50 to 921.6 kbps, ensuring fast data transmission. Data transmission occurs via a DB9 connector interface, transmitting signals TxD, RxD, RTS, CTS, DTR, DSR, DCD and GND for RS-232, and Data+/Data-, Tx+/Tx-, Rx+/Rx- and GND for RS-422/485. The Ethernet interface operates with 10/100BaseT(X) and features 1.5 kV isolation to prevent interference and overvoltage. Power supply is via 12–48 VDC, with power consumption of 200 mA at 12 VDC. The devices are designed for environments with operating temperatures from -40 to 75 °C (T models), making them suitable for outdoor use or in demanding industrial facilities.

The NPort 5150 is compatible with a wide range of operating systems, including Windows 11/10/8/7/Vista/XP/95, Windows Server 2022/2019/2016, Linux Kernel 2.4–6.x, macOS 10.1x to 14, as well as Unix, QNX, Solaris, Android API 3.1+. Support for SNMP MIB-II enables network monitoring and management, with E-mail notifications possible in case of error events. The devices are equipped with certifications such as EN 55032/35, FCC Part 15B, CISPR 32 (EMC), IEC 61000-4-2 to -4-11 (EMS), and EN 62368-1, UL 60950-1 (safety). Mounting and Installation
The device features a metal housing with dimensions 52 × 80 × 22 mm (without mounting brackets) and a weight of 340 g. Mounting is possible on desktop, wall or DIN rail (optional with mounting kit). Installation is simple, as configuration is done via web, Telnet or Windows utility. Power supply is via a power adapter (except for 5110-T models), included in the delivery scope.
