The Moxa NPort 5150AI-M12-T is a
Device-Server from the NPort 5000AI-M12 series, specifically developed for use in
rail applications, whether on rolling stock or in trackside installations. The device connects serial devices via
Ethernet and enables their integration into existing network infrastructures. It features a robust
metal housing with
protection rating IP40, protecting against dust and splashing water, and is equipped with
vibration-resistant M12 connectors to meet the demands of harsh environments. Compliance with standards
EN 50155 (mandatory tests) and
EN 50121-4 ensures reliability and safety in the rail sector.
Applications include networking industrial controls, sensors, operator panels, and other serial devices in railway vehicles, stations, or signaling systems. The devices are designed for use in environments with mechanical stress, such as vibrations and shocks, which is confirmed by certification according to
IEC 60068-2-6 for vibrations. The
operating temperature range is wide-temp, from
-40 to 75 °C, enabling use in extreme climatic conditions.
Functions and equipment in detail include a serial connection with
DB9 male for connection to RS-232/422/485 devices. The
baud rate can be set between
50 and 921.600 bps, with data bits (5–8), stop bits (1, 1.5, 2), and parity types (none, even, odd, Space, Mark) configurable flexibly.
Flow control is achieved via RTS/CTS, DTR/DSR, or XON/XOFF. For RS-485, data direction is automatically controlled via
ADDC (Automatic Data Direction Control).
Galvanic isolation is
2 kV, providing high immunity to interference and protection against voltage surges.
Technology explained simply shows that the device features an
Ethernet port with
M12 D-coded (female, 4-pin), designed for secure and robust connections in industrial environments. Network configuration is possible via
Web (HTTP/HTTPS),
Windows Utility,
Telnet,
DSU, or
MCC. Supported protocols include
TCP/IP, UDP, SNMPv1/v2c/v3, DHCP, BOOTP, DNS, LLDP, SMTP, ICMP.
IGMP filtering (v1/v2) enables control of multicast traffic.
Security features include
HTTPS,
AES-128 encryption, and
SNMPv3 to protect access to the device. Remote access and
SNMP monitoring support monitoring and remote maintenance in modern networks.
Compatibility and accessories include
Real COM/TTY drivers for various operating systems:
Windows (95 to 11, Server 2000 to 2022, CE 5.0/6.0),
Linux (Kernel 2.4–5.x),
macOS (10.12–10.15),
UNIX (SCO, QNX, Solaris, FreeBSD, AIX, HP-UX), as well as
Android (API ≥ 3.1). Power supply is via
12–48 VDC, with compliance with
EN 50155 at 24/48 VDC. Connection is via
M12 A-coded (5-pin, male). Power consumption is
310 mA at 12 VDC. The
MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) according to Telcordia standard is
789,341 hours.
Mounting and installation are facilitated by the robust design and M12 connectors, ensuring a secure mechanical connection. Configuration is possible via a
3-step web configuration, simplifying setup. The devices are designed for industrial environments, with
dimensions of 80 × 216.6 × 52.9 mm and a
weight of 686 g. The
storage temperature ranges from
-40 to 85 °C, and the
humidity is 5–95 % (non-condensing).
Operational advantages include high reliability, easy integration, and comprehensive security features. Support for
UDP multicast and
SNMP monitoring enables efficient network monitoring.
Galvanic isolation protects against interference, and
certifications according to
EN 50155 and
EN 50121-4 guarantee suitability for the rail sector.
EMC and EMS certifications (EN 55032/35, FCC Part 15B, IEC 61000-4-2/-3/-4/-5/-6/-8), as well as
safety certification UL 60950-1 and
sustainability standards RoHS, CRoHS, WEEE, underscore quality and safe operation.
