The Moxa ioLogik E1240-T is a Remote I/O module from the ioLogik E1200 series, designed for use in industrial automation and IIoT applications. The device features an integrated 2-port Ethernet switch that supports Daisy-Chain topologies, enabling the connection of multiple modules over a common network. It is designed for operation in environments with extreme temperatures, with the T model supporting an operating temperature range of -40 °C to 75 °C. The unit is also certified for use in hazardous areas (ATEX Zone 2, Class I Div. 2), although this certification does not apply to the E1213 and E1213-T models.

Applications

The ioLogik E1240-T is suitable for decentralized data acquisition and control in production facilities, energy supply systems, transportation infrastructure, and other industrial environments where robust, networked control is required. Simultaneous support for six communication protocols – Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, RESTful API, SNMP v1/v2c, Moxa AOPC, and MXIO – enables flexible integration into existing OT and IT systems. Support for RESTful API is particularly relevant for modern IIoT applications, as it enables direct communication with web-based applications and cloud platforms.

Functions and Features in Detail

The module offers a variety of input and output options, configurable according to the model variant. It includes digital inputs (wet/dry contact, up to 250 Hz) and digital outputs (sink/source, up to 500 mA, pulse up to 500 Hz), with the number of channels varying between 4 and 16. Relay outputs are available up to 6 channels (5 A @ 250 VAC/30 VDC). Configurable DIOs (Digital I/O) allow flexible assignment of functions. Analog inputs (4–8 channels, 0–10 VDC / 0(4)–20 mA, 16-bit) and analog outputs (4 channels, 0–10 VDC / 0(4)–20 mA, 12-bit) provide precise measurement and control functions. For temperature measurement, RTD sensors (PT50–PT1000, accuracy ±0.1 % FSR, 6 channels) and thermocouples (types J/K/T/E/R/S/B/N, 8 channels) are integrated. Peer-to-peer communication enables direct signal transmission between I/O modules without requiring an additional control unit.

Technology Explained Simply

The integrated Push technology via the MX-AOPC UA Server ensures that events are automatically transmitted to SCADA systems, which is more efficient than traditional polling methods, where the server periodically checks for changes. Configurable Modbus addressing simplifies migration of existing systems, as addressing can be adapted to match existing configurations. Configuration is performed via a web browser, the ioSearch tool, or the MCC tool. Power supply is 12–36 VDC, with power consumption at 24 VDC ranging from 110 to 200 mA. Isolation is 3 kVDC or 2 kVrms, ensuring high electrical safety.

Compatibility and Accessories

The module is compatible with MXIO software for Windows and Linux, facilitating integration into existing control environments. The integrated Ethernet interface enables connection to other devices on the network. The module series is certified for use in hazardous areas, although this certification does not apply to the E1213 and E1213-T models. The module series is designed for industrial environments with high requirements for ESD, surge, and EFT protection, as well as vibration, shock, and drop tests in accordance with IEC 60068.

Mounting and Installation

Mounting is either on a DIN rail or on a wall. Dimensions are 27.8 × 124 × 84 mm, and weight is 200 g. Installation is simple and requires no special tools. The delivery includes the module, an 8-pin terminal block (3.81 mm), a 12-pin terminal block (3.81 mm), a 3-pin terminal block (5.00 mm), a quick start guide, and a warranty card.

Operational Advantages

Simultaneous support for multiple protocols enables flexible and future-proof integration into various networks. Push technology reduces latency in event transmission and improves the responsiveness of control systems. The robust construction and certification for extreme environments make the module a reliable solution for demanding industrial applications. Simple configuration via web browser or dedicated tools reduces commissioning time.

Protection Rating and Environmental Conditions

The device is designed for industrial environments and meets requirements for ESD, surge, and EFT protection, as well as vibration, shock, and drop tests in accordance with IEC 60068. The operating temperature range for the T model is -40 °C to 75 °C, making it suitable for use in extreme climatic conditions. Certification for hazardous areas (ATEX Zone 2, Class I Div. 2) expands the application range in sensitive installations.

Certifications and Warranty

The module is certified with ATEX Zone 2 and Class I Div. 2, although this certification does not apply to the E1213 and E1213-T models. The warranty period is 5 years, with the E1214 model having a 2-year warranty. The warranty card is included in the delivery.
