The Moxa CSM-200-1214 is a Slide-In Ethernet-to-fibre media converter, specifically designed for the modular NRack System™. It converts 10/100BaseT(X) copper Ethernet signals into 100BaseFX fibre signals, making it suitable for industrial networks requiring modular scalability, high reliability, and easy maintenance. The device is part of the CSM-200 series and enables the integration of fibre connections into existing copper networks without requiring a complete network overhaul.

Functions and Features in Detail

The device features an RJ45 port for copper Ethernet connection and a multimode SC port for fibre connection. Integrated functions include LFP (Link Fault Pass-Through) and FEF (Far End Fault), enabling rapid fault detection by immediately reporting network disturbances. Additionally, the converter offers two operating modes: Store-and-Forward, which fully receives, checks, and then forwards data packets, and Pass-Through, which enables direct forwarding without intermediate storage. The mode selection depends on the required network performance.

Technology Explained Simply

The Auto-Negotiation function ensures that Ethernet speed and duplex mode (half- or full-duplex) are automatically negotiated between connected devices, simplifying configuration. The Hot-Swap capability allows the module to be replaced during operation without shutting down the entire system, enhancing operational reliability and reducing downtime. The integrated magnetic isolation with 1.5 kV protects the device from electrical interference and voltage surges, which is particularly important in harsh industrial environments.

Compatibility and Accessories

The CSM-200-1214 is compatible exclusively with NRack System™ chassis from Moxa. It cannot be operated in other enclosures or systems. The series includes various variants for multimode (SC/ST) and singlemode (SC), covering different fibre applications. The use of multimode fibre with SC connectors makes the CSM-200-1214 particularly suitable for medium-distance transmissions in industrial environments.

Installation and Mounting

Installation is performed by simply inserting the Slide-In module into the NRack System™ chassis. Due to its Plug-and-Play design, no additional configuration is required. The Hot-Swap capability allows the module to be replaced without interrupting network operation, simplifying system maintenance and expansion.
