The Moxa CP-168U is an 8-port RS-232 universal PCI card designed for use in demanding industrial environments as well as in POS and ATM systems. It enables reliable serial communication with a maximum baud rate of 921.6 kbps and a data throughput of over 700 kbps. The card is designed for operation in PCs and servers and supports both 3.3 V and 5 V PCI and PCI-X buses, ensuring broad compatibility with various systems. The integrated
FIFO storage with 128 bytes ensures efficient data transfer, especially in data-intensive applications. The
flow control functions (hardware RTS/CTS and software XON/XOFF) support stable communication and prevent data loss at high transmission rates.
Applications include industrial automation, system integration, cash dispensers, and point-of-sale systems. The card is designed for use in environments requiring high reliability and stability.
Operating system support includes Windows, Linux (kernel 2.4 to 5.x), and various UNIX systems such as QNX, SCO, Solaris, and FreeBSD, enabling flexible integration into existing IT infrastructures.
Technology explained simply: The CP-168U uses a MU860 controller compatible with the 16C550C standard. This controller allows configuration of various serial parameters such as data bits (5, 6, 7, 8), stop bits (1, 1.5, 2), and parity types (none, even, odd, Space, Mark). The serial signals TxD, RxD, RTS, CTS, DTR, DSR, DCD, and GND are fully supported. The card features a DB62 socket as the connection point for the serial ports. Power supply is via the PCI bus with a current draw of 180 mA at 5 VDC. The form factor is compact with dimensions of 82 × 120 mm.
Compatibility and accessories: The card is designed for use in standard PCs and servers. This enables flexible cabling and adaptation to various peripheral devices.
Mounting and installation: Installation is performed by inserting the card into a free PCI or PCI-X slot of the host computer. The card is connected to serial devices via the integrated DB62 socket. The
LED indicators per port (Tx/Rx) facilitate diagnosis and maintenance by visually indicating transmit and receive activity. The card requires no additional power supplies or external controls.
Operational advantages: High reliability is underscored by an MTBF of 280,854 hours (according to Telcordia TR/SR standard). The card is designed for use in environments with humidity levels of 5 to 95 % (non-condensing). The standard version (CP-168U) is suitable for operating temperatures of 0 to 55 °C, while the wide-temperature variant CP-168U-T enables operation from -40 to +85 °C. Storage is possible in the range of -40 to +85 °C. Certifications include EMC (EN 55032/35), EMI (CISPR 32, FCC Part 15B Class B), EMS (IEC 61000-4-2, -4-3, -4-4), as well as environmental standards such as RoHS, CRoHS, and WEEE. KC certification is also available.
The delivery includes the CP-168U serial card, a quick start guide, a material declaration, and a warranty card.
