The Moxa CP-104UL-DB9M is an
intelligent serial card with four RS-232 ports, designed for use in professional environments such as
POS systems,
ATMs, and
industrial automation. The card is based on a
Universal PCI bus and is designed for 32-bit systems, enabling its use in a wide range of PC servers and industrial PCs. The
RS-232 interface allows connection to serial devices such as terminals, sensors, or industrial controls. The maximum baud rate is 921.6 kbps per port, ensuring fast and reliable data transmission. The integrated
128-byte FIFO buffering reduces processor load and supports efficiency at high data rates. Additionally, the card offers
hardware and software flow control (RTS/CTS, XON/XOFF) to prevent data loss during overload.
Applications include scenarios where multiple serial devices need to be connected to a PC, for example in sales systems, industrial controls, or logistics. The card is designed for use in
industrial environments, with the standard version specified for an operating temperature range of 0 to 55 °C. For more demanding conditions, a Wide-Temperature version is available with an operating temperature range of -40 to 85 °C. The
DB44 socket on the card enables connection via an external cable, providing flexible connection options.
Functions and features in detail include integrated
LED indicators for transmit and receive status per port, enabling quick on-site diagnosis of communication issues. The card supports various serial parameters: data bits (5, 6, 7, 8), stop bits (1, 1.5, 2), parities (none, even, odd, space, mark), as well as various flow control methods. Signals TxD, RxD, RTS, CTS, DTR, DSR, DCD, and GND are fully supported, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of serial devices.
Technology explained simply shows that the card features a
communication controller MU860 compatible with the 16C550C standard. This controller ensures stable and reliable serial communication. The
Universal PCI technology allows use in systems with 3.3 V or 5 V PCI and PCI-X buses, increasing compatibility with various hardware platforms. Power consumption is 120 mA at 5 VDC, ensuring efficient energy use.
Compatibility and accessories include support for various operating systems: Windows (DOS, 95–10, Server 2003–2019, Embedded CE 5.0/6.0, XP Embedded), Linux (Kernel 2.4.x to 5.x), as well as UNIX systems such as QNX 6, SCO OpenServer, UnixWare 7, Solaris 10, and FreeBSD. These cables enable connection to various serial devices and connectors.
Installation and mounting is done via the standard PCI slot in the computer. Installation is performed using the included quick installation guide. The card is designed for use in
industrial and commercial environments, with certifications (EMC: EN 55032/24, EMI: CISPR 32, FCC Part 15B Class B, EMS: IEC 61000-4-2/3/4/5/6/8) confirming compliance with electromagnetic compatibility standards. Environmental certifications RoHS, CRoHS, and WEEE ensure environmental compatibility.
Operational advantages include high reliability, demonstrated by an MTBF of 558,961 hours (Telcordia TR/SR standard). The card is designed for 24/7 operation and offers a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty. The integrated diagnostic LEDs and support for multiple operating systems enhance maintainability and flexibility in use. The card is designed for use in
industrial and commercial applications where high availability and stability are required.
