Cables and devices with EPR support power up to 240 watts (48 V / 5 A), an increase of almost 2.5 times over its predecessor PD 3.0., whose Standard Power Range (SPR) was still limited to 100 W (20 V / 5 A max.)

One like this High performance via USB-C has many advantages: high-end devices like the latest 40,6 cm ( 16 inch ) MacBook Pro® or a modern gaming laptop already uses an input power of over 100W, which they currently receive from a proprietary power supply. These bulky power supplies use special DC plugs that are not interchangeable between different brands. If you lose such a power supply, a frustratingly expensive replacement is necessary. The universal USB-C port puts an end to this frustration and allows notebooks from all manufacturers to be charged with any PD 3.1 compatible charger or PD 3.1 compatible power bank. This universal charging capability is also the reason why a new EU regulation requires laptops to support charging via USB-C from 2026.
