There are mainly two different technologies, the SLC (single-level cell) and the MLC (multi-level cell) technology. SSDs that have SLC are about 10x more durable than the MLC versions, write about 3x faster and offer about the same speed of read access. Speaking of "durability", there are actually also disadvantages of SSDs compared to HDDs. The lifespan is limited due to the built-in memory chips. The number of write cycles is with 3,000 to 100,000 per flash cell considerably smaller than the one of magnetic hard disk, which offer about 10 billion write cycles.
