The advantages of Passive Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cables over fiber optic and RJ45 cables
Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cables are becoming increasingly popular in the networking industry. Our passive SFP+ 10G DAC Twinax cable is a cost-effective alternative to RJ45 and fiber optic cables, with energy efficiency and low latency. It is an excellent choice for short-distance structured cabling between switches and routers on one side and servers and storage on the other, whether in Top of Rack (ToR), Adjacent Rack, 10G stacking switches or similar Applications.
No heat generation and suitable for extreme ambient temperatures - ideal for data centers
SFP+ DAC consists of twinaxial copper cables connected to SFP+ connectors at both ends and provides an electronic connection directly into the active components. Thanks to its thermal design, this passive cable consumes less than 0.15W, reducing your power consumption and therefore your costs. Since it does not produce heat, it is much more versatile in use, even in extreme ambient temperatures of up to 70 C°, which in turn makes it particularly valuable for data centers.
Cheaper and easier to use than fiber optic
DAC cabling has a comparatively simple internal structure with fewer components than fiber optic cables. This cable structure enables a lower purchase price and also saves you from purchasing separate GBIC transceivers. This in turn makes it easier to use because you have to coordinate fewer components. When storing used cables, in contrast to fiber optic cables, you have to pay less attention to checking and cleaning them before using them again. If you're upgrading your network or replacing individual parts, the cable's hot-swapping capability ensures a seamless transition. Just note that passive DAC cables are not suitable for long-distance use - Their transmission range is limited to 7 m.
Lower latency than RJ45 twisted pair patch cables
Like regular Cat6a and Cat7 copper cable, this Direct Attach Copper Twinax cable allows data transfer up to 10 Gbit/s, but its unique structure and data transmission ensures lower latency.
